Privacy Policy

How we handle your data.

Plain English. If you submit our quote form, your details are shared with up to 3 SAA-accredited WA battery installers servicing your suburb. Those installers pay us a referral fee. Here are the full details. Last updated: 22 May 2026.

The honest summary. Watt's My Rebate is a lead-referral service. When you submit our quote form, we share your contact details and home information with up to 3 accredited WA battery installers servicing your suburb. Those installers pay us a referral fee per qualified lead. This is how we keep the calculator, guides and comparison content free to use. We do not sell email lists to third parties beyond those matched installers, do not run advertising trackers, and do not share data with anyone you have not consented to be matched with.

About us

Watt's My Rebate is operated by Christian Beaden (sole trader, trading as "Watt's My Rebate", ABN registered in Western Australia), based in Perth. We are an independent comparison and lead-referral website. We do not install batteries, are not affiliated with the Government of Western Australia, Synergy, Horizon Power, the Clean Energy Council, Solar Accreditation Australia, or any specific battery manufacturer or installer.

What information we collect

1. Information you give us via the quote form

When you submit our 4-step quote form, we collect:

  • Your first name
  • Your email address
  • Your mobile phone number
  • Your WA postcode
  • Whether you currently have solar (and approximate size)
  • Your install timeframe (ASAP, 1-3 months, 3-6 months, just researching)

We do not collect: your full home address, your date of birth, payment information, government ID numbers, or any personal information beyond what is listed above.

2. Information you give us via the newsletter form

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect only your email address. You can unsubscribe with one click from any newsletter.

3. Information you give us via the installer application form

If you are an installer applying to join our panel, we collect your company name, your name, business email, business phone, SAA accreditation number, and service areas.

4. Automatically collected analytics data

Like most websites, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This collects: pages visited, time on page, referring source, approximate location (city level), device type. This data is aggregated and anonymous. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking via the official browser opt-out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking beyond standard Google Analytics.

How we use and share your information

Quote form submissions: shared with up to 3 installers

This is the most important disclosure in this policy. When you submit the quote form, your information (name, email, phone, postcode, solar status, timeframe) is shared with up to 3 SAA-accredited battery installers servicing your suburb. Those installers contact you directly to provide quotes.

The 3 installers selected are determined by your postcode and which installers have signed agreements to receive leads from us. We do not show you who they will be in advance, but the list of installers on our comparison page is the full panel. You can ask us at any time which 3 installers received your details.

Installers pay us a referral fee of $30 to $150 per qualified lead, regardless of whether they win the install. This is how the site is funded. The fee is paid by the installer, not by you. Receiving quotes through us costs you nothing.

Newsletter subscriptions: not shared

If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email is stored in our email service provider (Buttondown) and used only to send you our monthly updates and the buyer's guide PDF. We do not share newsletter subscriber lists with installers or any third party.

Installer applications: not shared

If you apply to join our installer panel, your details are kept private and used only to verify your SAA accreditation, contact you about onboarding, and process invoicing if you join.

Third-party service providers

To run the site, we use these third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • Formspree (formspree.io): receives and stores your quote form submissions before we forward them to installers
  • Buttondown (buttondown.email): hosts our newsletter mailing list
  • Netlify (netlify.com): hosts the website and processes web traffic
  • Cloudflare (cloudflare.com): handles DNS
  • Google Analytics (analytics.google.com): processes anonymous usage analytics
  • Stripe (stripe.com): processes installer payments (no homeowner payment data is collected)
  • Microsoft Outlook (outlook.com): stores email correspondence sent to wattsmyrebate@outlook.com

We do not knowingly transfer your data outside Australia except through these standard service providers, which may store data in their global infrastructure. All services listed above comply with applicable privacy frameworks.

How long we keep your data

Quote form submissions are retained for 24 months. This allows us to:

  • Resolve disputes if an installer claims they did not receive a lead, or you claim you did not receive quotes
  • Pay installers correctly for leads they received
  • Improve the matching service over time

After 24 months, quote form data is deleted automatically.

Newsletter subscribers are retained until you unsubscribe, at which point your email is removed within 14 days.

Your rights under Australian Privacy Principles

You have the right to:

  • Ask what data we hold about you. Email wattsmyrebate@outlook.com and we will provide a copy within 14 days.
  • Correct inaccurate data. Email us with the corrections.
  • Request deletion. Email us and we will delete your data within 7 days, except where we are legally required to retain it.
  • Withdraw consent for installer matching. Email us within 24 hours of submitting the quote form and we will retract the referral and ask matched installers to delete your details.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.

Data security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse and unauthorised access:

  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption)
  • Form submissions are stored in Formspree's secure infrastructure
  • Email correspondence is stored in Microsoft Outlook's secure infrastructure
  • Access to your data is limited to the site owner and any automated systems required to operate the service

No system is fully secure. We will notify affected users within 72 hours of becoming aware of any data breach involving personal information.

Cookies

We use:

  • Google Analytics cookies: anonymous usage analytics. Opt out via your browser settings or the Google opt-out tool linked above.
  • Functional cookies: remember things like calculator inputs and cookie banner dismissal. These do not leave your browser.

The cookie banner on first visit asks for your consent. Declining limits analytics tracking; the site functions normally without it.

Children's privacy

The site is intended for WA homeowners (adults). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has submitted data, email us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy (for example, adding a new third-party service provider or changing how we share data), we will update the "last updated" date at the top and email anyone who has submitted a quote form in the previous 24 months. Minor wording updates are made without notification.

How to contact us

If you are dissatisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.
